Artist's presentation

Linda Soh Trengereid

20. Apr 2023 KL. 18:00 - 19:00

In connection with the exhibition BLINK | Trond Mohn Art Collection, we invite some of the artists to present their practice. In the exhibition, we only get to see one work by each artist and we are curious about the entire practice That is why we invite you to artist presentations where artists can show several works and put their work in the exhibition in a context.

This Thursday we have invited Linda Soh Trengereid (b. 1984). She works with paintings and in the exhibition we show the work Where you go I follow #10, which was made in 2022.

Here is what Linda Soh Trengereid writes about her practice:

"In my paintings, I try to balance an expression that lies between the actual and the fictional, a kind of magical realism where the subjects are detached from a specific time and a specific place. I work serially, in varying sizes, from the small and intimate to large formats that fill the entire field of vision.

My background as an adoptee from South Korea is often an underlying influence for my work, acting as an anchor point from which to explore shifting and detached narratives.

I work gradually and in layers with charcoal and acrylic towards a result that becomes a hybrid between painting and drawing. Often the acrylic paint erases parts of the drawing, in some places I rework details with charcoal, in some places with paint and brush. The people in my works are absent or appear as empty sections of untreated canvas where paint has partially bled into it. The figures are defined by the surrounding landscape, rather than being modeled. My paintings can give associations to hand-coloured photographs and graphics but with clear painterly and drawn qualities."

Linda Soh Trengereid completed her master's in art at Bergen College of Art and Design in 2011.

Since then she has lived and worked in Bergen.

In recent years, she has had solo exhibitions at Visningsrommet USF in Bergen (2021), Voss kulturhus (2018), Kunstgarasjen in Bergen (2017) and Galleri LNM in Oslo (2016).

She has participated in group exhibitions such as Høstutstillingen (2021), Vevringutstillingen (2016) and Vestlandsutstillingen (2016), and exhibited at Stavanger Art Museum (2023), Kristiansand Kunsthall (2022), QB Gallery in Oslo (2022), MELK in Oslo (2022) ), Tegnerforbundet in Oslo (2022), Bomuldfabriken Kunsthall in Arendal (2021) and Galleri BOA in Oslo (2018).

Works have been purchased by, among others, Haukeland University Hospital, the University of Bergen and Fana Kulturhus. She has public decorations at REV Ocean (2020), Tertnes VGS (2018-2019) and Klostergarasjen in Bergen (2015).
