Maria Nepomuceno

Afetosyntesis

17. Mar 2017 - 28. May 2017

Using coloured rope and beads, Brazilian artist Maria Nepomuceno (b. 1976) creates organic sculptures that spread outwards and fill the room. Her large, often spiral-shaped works are inspired by old Brazilian craft traditions. For each exhibition, she creates sculptures adapted to the place where they are shown.

When Stavanger Art Museum accepted the donation of the Jan Groth and Steingrim Laursen Collection, it entailed placing greater emphasis on late Modernist forms of expression and increasing our focus on other cultures. With the exhibition of Maria Nepomuceno’s works, we want to continue working with the opportunities afforded by the Groth and Laursen Collection.

This is the first time Maria Nepomuceno’s works are presented in Norway. The exhibition will travel on to Kunsthuset Kabuso.

An exhibition catalogue with installation photos will be published.
